Description
The cart shed and barn, located immediately northeast of Stafford Farm House, likely date from around 1837. The cart shed features brick walls and a slate roof with gablet ends, and is one storey high with a loft. A plat band runs at the loft floor level. On the ground floor, there are five segmental arches set on brick piers, with the two central arches buttressed. The loft contains one loft door and one casement window with cast iron glazing, situated under gabled dormers. Access to the loft floor is provided by external stairs at the right end, which have a balustrade wall in a Flemish style. The roof structure includes a collar beam with shaped curved braces, and the principal rafters are supported by wall posts.
Attached at right angles to the cart shed is the barn, which also has brick walls and a half hipped slate roof. The barn features a hipped cart porch, though the original doors have been replaced with corrugated iron. There are some slit openings and later windows at the rear, and the roof consists of five bays constructed in a simple king post style.
