Description
Chaldon Down Buildings is a barn and cottage, likely built in the late 18th century. This structure is part of a post-Enclosure group, featuring a Down Barn with an attached stockman's cottage. The main barn has stone walls with brick dressings and a tiled roof, while the cottage has a brick stack and is two storeys tall. The barn is single-storeyed and includes a large cart porch with a hipped roof and a slit window. The cottage has one window on each floor, although the sashes are missing. Single-storey ranges extend from each end of the main barn, creating an enclosed courtyard. There are also open shelter sheds with roofs supported by timber posts adjacent to the courtyard, featuring stone outer walls and corrugated iron roofs. This group of buildings is notable despite some unsympathetic repairs.
