Manor Farmhouse And Barn Adjoining To West

Manor Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are located on Village Street in Stourton Caundle. The farmhouse dates from the early 18th century, although it may have an earlier core, while the barn is likely from the late 16th or early 17th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed rubble and features a stone-slate hipped roof. It has brick stacks positioned to the left of the door, partway along the ridge, and at the front eaves on the right. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and has a five-window range. The windows are 19th-century sashes with moulded architraves and glazing bars; the first bay has three-light windows, while the fourth bay has double windows. On the ground floor to the right, there is a rectangular bay window with three sashes and glazing bars. The entrance features a part-glazed door with a flat hood supported by slender columns and a simple entablature. Inside, the kitchen includes a stopped chamfered beam, and there is an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, moulded handrails, and a panelled dog-gate.

The barn, which continues the range of the house, is also made of coursed rubble and has a roof that is part stone-slate and part tile with a half-hipped design. It features two opposing porches, one half-hipped and the other gabled. There is a pantiled outshut to the south and a 19th-century extension with Roman tiles to the west. The roof of the barn is supported by two jointed cruck trusses; the western truss has a slip tenon and two soffit pegs, while the eastern truss is probably edge pegged. The crucks rise from wall-plates approximately five feet above the ground and are complemented by arch-braced collars and later tie beams.
