Description
Humbers is a detached house that likely dates from the mid to late 16th century and originally had an open-hall form. It was altered in the late 16th century, as indicated by the date stone on the front wall that reads "M1592W". The house features coursed rubble stone walls and a thatched roof, with one brick stack at the left end and another at the rear right end.
The left section of the house is two storeys high, while the right section is one storey with an attic; the left section may have been a rebuilt byre of a long-house. The entrance includes a ledged door with a small glass panel. On the ground floor, to the left of the door, there is one casement window with cast iron glazing, and to the right, there are two casements, one of which has glazing bars. The left section has one casement window with lead lights and another with glazing bars on the first floor, while the right section has two blocked windows under the eaves.
There is a 20th-century extension at the right end, which has concrete block walls, a tiled roof, and garage doors. Inside, the left ground floor room features a large open fireplace that has been partly built up, with a timber lintel and jambs, and a spiral stair behind it. There is also one deep-chamfered ceiling beam. The centre room includes a possibly reset moulded timber fireplace lintel, and there is an oak plank and muntin partition on the first floor. The roof of the right section is constructed using jointed cruck techniques.
