Description
Ringtree House, also known as Numbers 1 and 2, is likely part of the old workhouse, as indicated by the 1839 tithe map. The building dates from around 1760 and is now used as cottages. It features coursed rubble walls topped with a tiled roof and has end stone stacks. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a single pile design. The facade facing the Green is irregular, with all ground floor openings set under segmental arches. There is a variety of windows, including an iron casement with leaded lights on the left side of the ground floor and a single upper floor window with a wooden lintel. The southern facade includes dormer windows in the attic. Inside number 2, there are shallow chamfered beams with stops. The workhouse was rebuilt at the parish's expense after a fire in December 1759 and was later used as a silk manufactory, as noted by John Hutchins in his book 'The History and Antiquities of the County of Dorset'.
