Description
The bridge at SY 6926 7326 is a road bridge built in 1881 that spans a former tramway. It features heavy rock-faced masonry and has a single segmental arch supported by lofty plain abutments with a deep glacis or plinth. The arch is constructed with voussoirs and a keystone, which displays the date on the south side. The bridge has heavy square-edged weathered parapets that rise about 1 meter above the roadway, which measures approximately 10 meters long and 3 meters wide. The lower (north) side of the bridge includes short curved abutments that slope down on either side. This bridge is part of a group of similar structures from the same period and serves as a reminder of the industrial activity in the quarries of the island during the 19th century, when rail and tramways were crucial to the transport system.
