Description
Barton Cottage and Rose Cottage are a pair of cottages, likely originally built as one house, dating from the late 18th century. They feature rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof, with one brick and one stone end stack. The cottages are one storey with attics. The north elevation facing the road has no openings. On the south front, Rose Cottage has two ground floor casement windows with glazing bars beneath projecting stone lintels, and one window that is shared with Barton Cottage. The attic includes two pent-roofed dormers with casements. There is a 20th-century extension at the west end, which has an artificial stone slate roof. The main ground floor room has a large open fireplace with a bread oven. Barton Cottage has a stable door, one casement window with glazing bars, and the shared window on the ground floor. Its attic has one pent-roofed dormer with casements. There is also a 20th-century extension on the right, designed to match the original style, with an artificial stone slate roof.
