Description

A pair of houses built around 1800 to 1810, situated on land behind the Royal Crescent and Esplanade in Weymouth. The houses are rough-rendered with slate roofs. They form a symmetrical pair, distinguished by full-height flat bows in the centre, arranged over two storeys and an attic, each with two windows. Number 33 possesses two Victorian gabled dormers, featuring sashes and deep, projecting bargeboards with finials. Number 34 has two flat-roofed dormers, one with a four-pane sash and the other a six-pane sash. The first floor of each house has a twelve-pane sash window in plain reveals. The bows contain sixteen-pane curved sashes within reveals and solid cheeks at both levels. Each house has a twentieth-century glazed front door with a fanlight. A nineteenth-century plank door with a blank fanlight provides access to a throughway. Architectural details include a plinth, a first-floor sill band, a moulded cornice that continues around the bows, a blocking course, and a parapet. The mansard roof has a large, central rendered stack. The interior has not been inspected. The pair exhibits minimal external alterations and retains original features.
