Description

The Elms is a villa located in a garden, dating from the early 19th century. It features stone walls that are stuccoed and have rusticated quoins. The south side wall is tile-hung, while the rear is constructed of brick. The villa has slate roofs, hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. There is a 20th-century brick stack at the right gable and two 19th-century brick stacks on the rear ridge at the left side. The building is two storeys high and has five windows, which are sashes with thin glazing bars and stone cills. The front elevation includes two large French windows with marginal glazing bars, and the central front door is a two-leaf design with recessed panels and two upper lights, topped by a small segmental fanlight. A verandah supported by cast-iron columns with plant motifs features a pentice roof made of corrugated plastic.

Inside, the villa boasts extensive plasterwork in the Hall, Dining Room, and Drawing Room. The Hall showcases a combination of 17th-century style motifs and foliage roundels with reticulations, along with an elliptical arch supported by reeded pilasters. The Drawing Room is adorned with a delicate strapwork plaster ceiling and a cornice rail decorated with festoons intertwined with strapwork. The north end bedrooms have segmental plaster ceilings featuring delicate strapwork and foliage, along with plasterwork dados. The six-panel doors have recessed panels. The interior plasterwork is notable for both its extensive coverage and high quality.
