Description
The summer house in the garden of Purbeck House is probably from the 18th century and was built in connection with the earlier house. It is a circular structure raised above garden level on an earth mound, accessed by a stone stair. There was once a water tank beneath the floor. The summer house features stone walls that are rendered on the outside and has a roof made of Purbeck stone. Inside, there is a blocked fireplace and two ornamental plaster plaques. The floor includes a manhole leading to the former water tank. A fixed timber table with a circular revolving top is made from a cart wheel that was part of the horse-drawn carts used to transport stone to boats at the quay. At the back of the summer house, there is a raised water tank within a stone, brick, and timber structure, which is dated 1884 and once supplied water to the cistern below the summer house.
