Description
Meadow Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that was partially refaced in the 19th century. The ground floor is made of coursed rubble, while the front upper floor is constructed in 19th-century brick with an English bond pattern. The rear upper wall is rendered and is said to be made of wattle and daub. The cottage features a half-hipped thatched roof with a brick stack positioned along the ridge on the right side. It has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. The ground floor openings are topped with segmental brick heads, and the 19th-century casements have two and three lights with glazing bars. There is a plank door located under a thatched porch between the first and second bays, along with another plank door at the extreme right. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressummer, and deep stop-chamfered ceiling beams and wall-plates. One of the beams is inscribed with 'Charles Hunt 1842', likely indicating when it was encased. The visible roof structure consists of collar-beam trusses. It seems that the cottage was once divided into two separate homes.
