Description

The Church of St Margaret is a parish church located in Margaret Marsh. The west tower dates from the 15th century, while the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1872, with work carried out by Crickmay. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble and ashlar, featuring ashlar dressings. It has tiled, gable-ended roofs with stone copings.

The church's layout includes a west tower, nave, chancel, and a south porch. The west tower consists of three stages separated by weathered strings, with diagonal buttresses on the first two stages and an embattled parapet. It has an octagonal vice tower and a west door with a 4-centred arch made of two chamfered orders, topped with a label. Below this, there is a three-light window with vertical tracery under a 2-centred head, with a string course that extends as a label. The bell-stage openings are two-centred and two-light, featuring lattice stone panels, and the south face has a similar window in the second stage. A gargoyle is present at the parapet string.

The nave windows are two-light with vertical tracery under 2-centred heads, each with returned labels. The north and south chancel windows are also two-light but feature flowing tracery. The east window has three lights with vertical tracery under a 2-centred head and a stopped label. The gabled south porch has a plain chamfered arch with a 4-centred design, and the south door follows a similar pattern.

Inside, there is an early 14th-century round bowl font set on an 18th-century base. Some medieval glass has been reset in the west window, while most other fittings and fixtures are from the 19th century.
