Description
The Lord Nelson Public House is a mid-18th century building constructed of red brick with a pitched tile roof and red brick stacks. It stands two storeys high with attics, featuring an eaves cornice made of diagonally placed bricks. The first floor has four flush-framed sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has two windows without glazing bars. There are two attic dormers with hipped tile roofs and casement windows. The entrance includes a planked door set within a surround that has reeded pilasters, paterae capitals, and a flat moulded hood supported by cut brackets, with two lozenges positioned between the brackets. The right side of the building features modern garage doors, one window with glazing bars on the ground floor, and one planked loft door above. In front of the pub, there is a pavement likely from the 18th century, made of large Purbeck setts. The Lord Nelson Public House, St Martin's Church, the retaining wall of the churchyard, and No 54 together form a group of buildings.
