Description

Lower Minchington Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600. It is constructed of flint and rubble, with some rendered sections, ashlar quoins, and stone dressings. The roof is tiled and stone slated, with end stone copings and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window front. The ground floor features stone mullioned windows, with returned labels, of three lights to the right and four lights to the left. A central doorway has a chamfered, depressed, four-centred head, above which is a small single-light stone window. The upper floor has timber casements with leaded lights. A stair turret is located in the re-entrant angle to the rear, and the scullery door has a depressed, four-centred head. Some wrought-iron casements are also present, featuring leaded lights.

Inside, the hall is divided from the cross-passage by reset 17th-century panelling. An original plank and muntin partition separates rooms to one side of the passage. The staircase comprises two phases of the 17th century; the later section has a moulded handrail and turned balusters, while the earlier section has solid oak treads radiating from a central newel post. Other interior features include deep stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, plank and muntin partitions, and doorways in attic partitions with chamfered, four-centred heads.
