Description
The Royal Oak Public House is a late 18th century to early 19th century building that was refronted in the late 19th century. It is constructed of stucco and consists of three storeys, with the ground and first floors featuring rusticated detailing. The building has a parapet and a round-arched carriage entrance on the left side, followed by the public house front which includes a canted bay window with sash windows on the right. The first floor features two canted bays, with the left one being an oriel that has decorative pargetting below. Both bays have moulded cornices and sash windows. Between the bays is an oblong cartouche decorated with oak leaves and an escutcheon displaying the monogram of Messrs Eldridge Pope. The second floor has three sash windows, framed by panelled stucco pilasters and pediments that include ornamented tympana. The Royal Oak Public House is part of a group that includes Nos 13 to 15 (consecutive), The Old Ship Public House, Nos 18 and 19, and Nos 21 to 24 (consecutive), as well as the Church of Our Lady.
