Description
Hyde Cottage is a detached house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 18th century. It features rubble stone walls, a stone slate roof, and stone stacks. The building has a T-shaped plan, originally including a stair turret at the junction of the front and rear wings, which has been demolished but is planned to be rebuilt.
The main north front has two ground floor windows: a five-light and a four-light mullioned window, both with hoodmoulds. On the first floor, there is a three-light mullioned window and a recent casement window. A small window at mezzanine level, which once lit a late stair, has been removed. The west end has a coped gable. The rear wing was rebuilt in the 18th century at a lower level and features timber casement windows, which are to be raised to the original level.
Inside, the main ground and first floor rooms have stone fireplaces with four-centred arches. There are also surviving four-centred arched doorways that connect the front to the rear wing and to the now-vanished staircase turret. The building was under repair and alteration at the time of the survey.
