Description

The building at 24 West Street is likely from the late 18th century. It is a two-storey brick building with a tiled roof. The front elevation features a central doorway with a raised cement surround and a modern glazed door. Below are two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, and above them, two matching windows. A two-storey rear wing, potentially of earlier origin, has brick walls, a tiled roof, and a small attic. The rear wing has one double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor, a circular-headed sash window with glazing bars overlooking the staircase, and one double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the first floor. Two dormers with segmental lead roofs, slate cheeks, and modern casements light the attic. The staircase, visible through a window, retains an unscathed mahogany handrail and simple balusters. A single-storey lean-to at the east end, now sharing ownership with number 25, is of brick construction, colourwashed, with a slate roof, and has a plain shop window.
