Description
West Row Studio, also known as Banks House, is a building with origins in the 17th century. It was originally timber framed but has undergone some restoration. The walls are a mix of timber framing and brick, topped with a tiled roof that features a stone eaves course and a brick chimney stack. The building has one storey and attics. The ground floor includes a modern door and windows that may fit into original openings. In the attic, there are two modern half dormers with flat roofs and casement windows. The side elevation has plastered walls that are painted to imitate timber framing.
Inside, the building has been significantly altered, but the ground floor still showcases a large brick chimney stack with stone jambs and a timber lintel. There are remnants of what may have been a curing chamber. On the first floor, one original timber framed partition remains, which includes a blocked door opening and a braced tie-beam. Additionally, there is a blocked oak mullioned window in the original rear wall.
