Description
The Royal Oak is a public house located on Dorchester Hill in Milborne Saint Andrew. It likely dates from the late 18th century, although it may have earlier origins. The building features roughcast walls and a tiled roof, with plastered stacks positioned at the left end, right of centre, and rising from the front wall. It is two storeys high.
The entrance includes a recessed flush panel door with panelled jamb linings and moulded architraves, along with a second part-glazed door. On the ground floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars and a canted bay window that also has similar sashes. The first floor features five sash windows, one of which has thicker glazing bars, indicating it may be older. To the right, there is a lower extension that may have been used as stables, which has two part-glazed doors and 20th-century casement windows. The central section of the building is recessed, possibly indicating a former carriage entrance.
