Description
The garden wall of No. 6 runs north from the house to No. 5 and is a Grade II listed structure. It dates from the 18th century, possibly from the period when West Walks was laid out between 1702 and 1712. The wall is constructed of red brick with some Portland or Ridgeway hammer-dressed stone and features a ramped design at either end. The West Walks, along with Colliton Walk and Bowling Alley Walk, were established during this time, replacing remnants of the former Roman ramparts. This development is significant as it coincided with Louis XIV's creation of the first Grands Boulevards in Paris, making the Dorchester Walks one of the earliest boulevards in England, where such features are uncommon. The wall, along with Nos. 1 to 6, including the wall between Nos. 5 and 6, forms a cohesive group.
