Description
The Coastguard Station Look-out Tower, built around 1886 for the Admiralty Coastguards, is a notable structure located in Wyke Regis. It is constructed of red brick in Flemished bond, featuring Portland stone dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and has Portland stone coping along with corbelled kneelers at the gable ends.
The tower is square in shape and has two storeys. On the north side, there is a plank door with a flat brick arch leading to a store on the ground floor. The east side features external stairs that lead to the look-out, which are made of brick with stone treads and a simple wrought-iron balustrade. At the top of the stairs, there is a 20th-century porch. The first-floor look-out windows on the south and west sides are fitted with plate glass. The tower also has integral yard walls with curved profiles that ramp up on the north and east sides. The interior has not been inspected.
