Description

Barton Hill Cottages is a detached farmhouse that has been divided into three cottages. It dates from the early to mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century, including changes to the windows, and a 19th-century extension on the east side. The building features rubble-stone walls and thatched roofs, which have stone gable copings and moulded kneelers on the left-hand gable and the right front gable. The third cottage has a lower hipped thatch roof. There are brick stacks on the left-hand gable and at the right end of the ridge, along with an 18th-century stone stack with a projecting cornice at the right front gable.

The north elevation is two storeys high with attics and has four windows, plus one window on the return to the north. From east to west, the windows consist of three, four, two, and one lights, featuring iron casements with lead lights and cast-iron casements with glazing bars. To the left of the centre is a four-light stone mullion window with a label. The north wing has stone-framed and mullioned windows on both the east and west sides.

The entrances to the cottages are now located on the rear (south) elevation. There is a 20th-century porch at the centre, which is roughcast with a pantiled roof and a plank door. An entrance is situated immediately east of the porch. The entrance to the third cottage is in the single-storey extension on the east end, featuring a plank door with a wood frame, dating from the 19th century.
