Description

Nos 44 and 44A on High Street are likely from the 18th century. Originally two cottages, they are now used as workshops and are set back from and below the current street line. The walls are made of Purbeck Stone, and the roof is covered with corrugated asbestos, which probably replaced the original Purbeck Stone. The building has two storeys, with flush panel doors for each cottage and casement windows on both the ground and first floors. There is evidence of earlier blocked openings, indicating its historical significance, although it has been altered over time. This is an early example of such structures.
