Description
Nos 56, 58, 60, and 62 High Street is a three-storey terrace of shops built in 1877, designed by architect G. Rickmay. The buildings feature Purbeck stone walls and roofs, with stone stacks that have moulded caps. The ground floor showcases 19th and 20th-century shop fronts framed by Corinthian pilasters and moulded stone cornices. Between Nos 58 and 60, there is a shield that likely originally displayed a Coat of Arms. On the first floor, each building has a three-light stone mullioned window with leaded lights, set under a relieving arch. The second floor has similar windows. This terrace has group value with the Town Hall, and the capitals and shield are from Castle Mondolfo in Italy.
