Description
Rylecombe Farm House is a farmhouse with origins in the 17th century, which has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a stone base, with brickwork from two different periods above it, and the top stage is made of plastered cob, indicating that the structure has been raised over time. It has a thatched roof and brick stacks, and consists of one storey with attics. The entrance includes a ledged door with a glass panel. On the ground floor, there are two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars. The attic contains two half-dormers with similar sash windows and one blocked dormer. There is a single-storey lean-to on the north side with concrete block walls and an asbestos roof. Inside, one room on the ground floor features a large open fireplace, which is partially blocked, with a moulded and cambered timber lintel and a bread oven. There is also one exposed ceiling beam in this room. Another ground floor room has a later fireplace and a deep chamfered ceiling beam. On the first floor, one partition includes 16th-century linenfold panelling, which is likely re-used.
