Description

Argal Manor is an early 19th-century entrance lodge, likely built as part of a larger estate. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings, and originally had a thatched roof, now replaced with concrete tiles. A tall granite chimney with an octagonal shaft is a prominent feature on the rear wall. The lodge follows a simple two-room plan, with a kitchen rebuilt in the 20th century and a likely fuel store positioned to the left. Designed in a Regency Gothic style, the single-story building has a symmetrical south front with two windows and a central doorway. The left and right corners are splayed, and the original four-centred arched openings are still visible. It probably originally featured a Y-traceried panelled boarded door. While the original Y tracery has been removed from the window heads, the original outer window frames remain, now containing 20th-century casement windows. A similar window is positioned in the middle of the right-hand wall. Internally, fireplaces are located against the rear walls of the front rooms, indicating the original layout.
