Description
The Carter Monument, located approximately 12 meters north of the north transept of the Church of St Breaca, is an 18th-century memorial made of granite ashlar. It features a slate inset set into a triangular pedimented front, which includes an integral buttress with moulded set-offs behind. The slate has an incised segmental head and bears a west-facing inscription commemorating Francis Carter, who died in 1774 at the age of 62; his wife Agnes, who died in 1784 at the age of 70; and their son Charles, who died in 1803 at the age of 40. Additionally, there is a later inserted piece of slate below that honors Francis, their son, who died in 1814 at the age of 70. This monument closely resembles another Cornish monument also found in this churchyard.
