Description
Primrose Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around the early 19th century by Henry James for himself. The structure features painted killas and cob, with the first floor slate-hung. It has a wheat reed thatched roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends, and a scantle slate roof over the lower part to the right. The original design includes a two-room cross-passage central-stair plan, with a two-storey extension to the right added around the mid-19th century, and a single-storey lean-to at the rear. The building stands two storeys high and has a three- and one-window front. The main section has a central doorway with a panelled door and a low-pitched gabled porch. The windows are 9-pane sashes with high meeting rails, and there is an old wooden launder under the eaves. The later 19th-century section to the right features 4-pane sashes. The interior remains largely unaltered, showcasing open beams and pine muntin and plank partitions.
