Description

A pair of houses dating from the late 19th century, located in Blackwater. The houses are constructed of roughly coursed killas rubble with granite dressings, and have dry Delabole slate hipped roofs with a hidden valley. Brick axial and gable stacks are present, featuring stepped cornices, and the building has cast-iron gutters with lions' heads at the junctions.

The plan is an overall rectangular double depth, with similar but not identical designs. Each house has an integral parallel service range at the rear; one runs parallel to the left-hand house, and another is set at a right angle behind the right-hand house. Each house has two front rooms flanking an entrance hall which leads to a two-storey porch with a moulded triangular gable pediment above the upper part of the bay.

The elevations are unaltered. Each house has a symmetrical three-bay front. Features include a plinth and a first-floor sill string. The original features include four-panel doors with overlights, and four-pane horned sash windows. First-floor openings have shallow arches and hoodmoulds. Round-arched stair windows with traceried heads and marginal panes are located on the rear wall of the left-hand house and the right-hand wall of the other. The interiors have not been inspected.
