Description
Sunbeams is a house in a row, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It features a stuccoed or rendered front and an asbestos slate roof with brick chimneys located over the right-hand party wall. The building has a double-depth plan, likely with two rooms at the front flanking a central entrance hall that leads to a stair hall between rear service rooms.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front with a central doorway. There is a mid-floor string and projecting keystones above the ground floor window openings. The entrance may have an original panelled door with two tall round-headed panels and an overlight. The first floor has what are probably 19th-century four-pane hornless sash windows, which may be original sashes with some glazing bars removed, while the ground floor features later four-pane horned sashes.
The interior has not been inspected. Notably, Passmore Edwards, a significant benefactor, was born in Blackwater village. Although the house where he was born no longer exists, he lived in this house for much of his childhood.
