Description

Sycamores is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private house, dating from around the mid-18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, featuring large dressed granite quoins. The building has a steeply pitched roof with gable ends, covered with rag slates on the front slope and scantle slates on the rear. There are brick chimney stacks at each end. The layout is a double depth plan, with two rooms at the front and likely a small lobby entrance or cross passage. At the rear, there are two small service rooms with a staircase in between.

The front of the house is two storeys high and has a regular two-window arrangement. The original casements have largely been replaced in the late 20th century, but the pattern from the 19th century has been maintained. On the ground floor, there is a part-glazed door to the left of centre, a three-light casement on the left, and a two-light casement on the right, all featuring flat brick arches. The first floor has similar two- and three-light casements with timber lintels.

Inside, there is a small lobby entrance hall that has been remodelled in the mid-20th century, but it may reflect an earlier plan. The front rooms have 20th-century fireplaces, while the staircase dates from around the mid-19th century, and the floors are laid with slate flags. The roof structure is not accessible for inspection.
