Description

East Trehunist Farmhouse, now a private house, dates from circa 1637. The structure is built of stone rubble, partially rendered on the right-hand side, and has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. Rendered stone rubble stacks are prominent on both gable ends, along with a rendered rear lateral stack. The original layout consisted of three rooms and a through passage, with rear lateral and gable end stacks serving the inner room and kitchen respectively. A rear wing was added circa the mid-19th century to the higher end, while a late-19th century outshut blocks the back of the passage.

The front facade on the ground floor features three 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, set within dressed stone arches with keystones. A 20th-century glazed porch with a sloping asbestos slate roof is located to the right of centre. Four casement windows with glazing bars are positioned above.

The interior retains heavy chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops in the hall and inner room. The hall fireplace has a rear lateral stack with chamfered stone jambs and a renewed timber lintel. Partitions flanking the through passage have been removed. The lower-end room, likely originally a kitchen, also has chamfered ceiling beams with scroll steps. A circa 18th-century fireplace incorporates a dressed stone segmental arch and a Bideford cloam oven. The roof structure consists of eight bays with heavy chamfered principals halved at the ridge and pegged to the ridge. The principals have cranked feet that die into the wall below the wall plate, and trenched purlins with chamfered cambered collars, halved, lapped, and pegged.
