Description
Treneglos Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the late 16th century or early 17th century. It is built of rendered and painted stone rubble with a slate roof that has a hipped end on the left and a gable end on the right. A brick chimney is located on the projecting stone rubble rear lateral stack.
The original layout of the house is uncertain, but it likely had at least a two-room and through passage plan that was remodeled in the 19th century. The ground slopes down to the left, and the original entrance was probably to the left of the existing entrance, leading into a through passage. The rear doorway features a 17th-century granite arch. The higher room on the right is heated by the rear lateral stack, and a small projection between the lateral stack and the passage may contain remnants of a newel stair. The lower end has been partly remodeled to create service rooms, with the room below the passage heated by an axial stack and a dairy beyond. In the mid-19th century, a one-room plan wing was added to the rear of the passage and lower end.
The exterior displays a regular 1:3 window front, with a 20th-century single-storey extension added across the front and an entrance with a dairy window to the left. There are three 19th-century two-light casements on the first floor. A lean-to outshut is located to the left, featuring a plank door on the ground floor and a one-light casement on the first floor.
Inside, the ceilings are plastered, and the hall fireplace has been blocked with a 20th-century grate. It is likely that earlier features have been covered over, so care should be taken during any future alterations to the farmhouse.
