Description

This is a barn and shelter shed located approximately 30 meters south of Kestle Barton Farmhouse and Kestle Cottage, dating from around the mid-18th century. The structure features stone rubble and painted cob walls with wooden lintels, topped by a steep half-hipped scantle slate roof. It has a rectangular plan that includes a grain store over a shippon, along with a single-storey shelter shed at the rear on the right side. The barn stands two storeys tall and has a slightly irregular two-window east front.

There is a doorway left of the center with a loading doorway offset to the left above it. The ground floor has 6-pane hopper windows, while the taller windows above are two-light, possibly original, shuttered windows. The left side of the barn adjoins another barn, which is a separate item, while the right side features a wide doorway on the ground floor and a two-light 18th-century window above. The ground floor doorway is framed by reused 16th and 17th-century moulded granite jambs with diabolo stops, and the moulded lintel has been reused as a grounder on the right side of the front. There is a reused oak lintel over the doorway, and the ledged doors on the ground floor include ventilation slits. The interior has not been inspected. This barn is noted as one of the most complete 18th-century barns in this part of Cornwall.
