Description

Hope Cottage is a house that combines a cottage and an adjoining house, dating from the 18th century and the early to mid-19th century. The main house features painted cob over a rubble base, while the cottage is constructed from rubble with some granite dressings. Both structures have asbestos slate roofs, except for the cottage's lean-to porch, which has a scantle slate roof. The house has a steeper roof that was originally thatched, and there are brick chimneys at the gable ends.

The layout includes a single-cell cottage on the left, built in the 19th century, and a two-room house on the right from the 18th century, which originally had a central cross passage. The two buildings were converted into one house in the 20th century. The overall front has three windows, with the cottage having a regular one-window design and a 20th-century lean-to porch with a doorway on the left. The house has a symmetrical two-window arrangement, which originally included a central doorway that has since been replaced with a window. The first floor features old, possibly original, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash windows, while the rest of the windows are two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected. Hope Cottage is part of a group of 18th and early 19th-century houses located at the head of the creek at Helford.
