BLISLAND SX 17 SW 9/105 Carriage house and stables to north of Trewardale -
GV II
Carriage house and stables. Circa early C19. Local stone rubble with granite quoins. Slate roof with hipped ends and central gable with bellcote above. Plan: Rectangular plan, built into bank with 2 storey elevation facing house on south and single storey elevation to rear. Wide central entrance shared by carriage house and stables to right and left. Exterior: 2 storey south elevation with symmetrical 3 window front. Ground floor with wide central elliptically arched entrance of dressed granite with keystone; pair of wide plank doors to carriage house set back in centre with stable doors to right and left within the arch. Sundial dated 1688 above entrance. Two 6-pane windows with dressed granite segmental arches to right and left, on ground and first floor. Central bullseye on first floor above which there is a small gable surmounted by an open-sided timber bellcote with slate pyramid roof and weathervane. 2 rows of pigeon holes at the centre below the eaves. Single storey range to left of stone rubble and slate roof with gable ends. Wide doors in altered openings. Interior: The stables to right and left of the carriage house have complete C19 fittings. Six stalls. Particularly unaltered exterior and interior with fine quality fittings.
