Description
The canal bridge and towpath located about 50 metres south of Burmsdon Farmhouse is a bridge that carries the road to Burmsdon Farm across the Bude Canal. It was constructed in 1821 by James Green, who was the engineer for the Bude Canal. The bridge is made of dressed stone rubble and features a curved brick band at the level of the road, along with a stone rubble parapet. It has a single span with an elliptical arch. One of the parapets has been repaired using concrete blocks. James Green previously worked under John Rennie before becoming the Surveyor of Bridges and Buildings in Devon, a position he held from 1818 to 1841.
