Description

The former count house at the former Par Consols Mine is a building that dates from around 1835 to 1840 and was later extended around 1880. It has been converted into a dwelling. The structure is made of stuccoed stone rubble with a slate-hung southeast end and features slate hipped roofs and brick lateral stacks.

The building has a rectangular single-depth plan, with the original count house located on the northwest side. The extension added a larger range on the southeast side and a two-storey outshut at the rear of the right-hand range, along with a 20th-century wing at the back of the left range.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical arrangement of windows on the northeast front, with a total of six windows: 16-pane sashes on the first floor, a 12-pane sash on the left, and three 4-pane sashes on the ground floor. To the right of centre, there is a two-storey porch with a glazed upper storey, referred to as an 'auction window,' which includes three large 18-pane sashes on the front and 36-pane sashes on either side. A moulded stringcourse runs at first floor level on the left. The southeast end has slate hanging and features 16-pane and 4-pane sashes. The rear side has two 16-pane sashes on the first floor, with a two-storey outshut on the left and a wing on the right that has a flat roof extension in the angle.

Inside, the building has moulded ceiling cornices and 19th-century joinery, including panelled doors, architraves, and panelled window shutters, along with a later 19th-century staircase. This count house was constructed by J.T. Treffry and the engineer and iron founder William West to serve the Par Consols copper mine.
