Description
The Trevithick Monument is a tribute to Richard Trevithick, built around the 1930s. It is a small, roughly-hewn granite monolith set on a plain base. The front of the monument is polished and features a carved crest of Cornwall at the top, with an inscription below that reads: "Richard Trevithick, Engineer, Inventor of the high-pressure steam engine. Born on April 13th 1771 in the house that stood on this site. Died on April 22nd 1833 at Dartford, Kent. This monument is erected as an appreciation of the great inventor and his gifts to the world."
