Description
Porthtown House is a farmhouse, possibly a former account house associated with Tywarnhaile Mine, dating from around the 1840s. It features walls made of killas rubble with granite dressings and a dry Delabole slate hipped roof. A 20th-century rebuilt brick chimney is located on the left-hand side, and it has cast-iron ogee gutters. The building has a double-depth plan, with two rooms at the front flanking a central entrance hall that leads to a stair hall situated between two rear service rooms. There are service lean-tos that are slightly set back on either side. The exterior is symmetrical with a three-window front and a central doorway, which contains the original six-panel door with an overlight. The original 16-pane hornless sash windows are present, and all openings are spanned by granite lintels. The interior has not been inspected.
