ST AGNES TYWARNHAILE MINE SW 74 NW 7/232 Lower Engine House (at SW698472) - GV II

Ruins of pumping beam engine house, disused. Circa early C19. Killas rubble walls, timber lintels over the openings. Plan: Rectangular plan engine house of a possibly unique design. This was the last engine house to be fitted with a wooden bob (the beam of the beam engine). No surviving machinery. Exterior: 3 storeys. Unaltered elevations. Front (bob) gable wall has central doorway and tall wide opening to the partly fallen gable. Rear gabled end is blind. Right-hand (nearside) wall has doorway on the left and a central first floor opening. Left-hand (offside) gable end wall has doorway on the right and central first floor opening.
