Description

This is an early 19th-century house, possibly originally a pair, located in the village of Charlestown. It is situated on Charlestown Road and is depicted on an 1843 tithe map. The house is constructed of Killas rubble with brick segmental arches over the openings. It has dry Delabole slate hipped roofs and brick end stacks on outbuilt breasts. The building follows a single-depth plan with two rooms at the front and a service wing set at right angles to the rear. The two-story facade is symmetrical, featuring three windows, with a window replacing a former central doorway. Late 19th or 20th-century six-pane horned sash windows are present. The interior remains uninspected. The house is included in the listing as part of a group of important and relatively unaltered buildings in this former fishing and china clay port.
