Description

This is a mid-19th century house located on Charlestown Road in St Austell. It is built from granite rubble with granite dressings, with the exception of the segmental brick arches over the windows. The roof is covered with dry Delabole slate and features brick end stacks, alongside a cast-iron ogee gutter to the main roof. The house follows a double-depth plan and originally presented a symmetrical three-window façade, with the possibility of an older one-window front to a single-storey-over-basement wing on the left. The windows are late 19th or 20th century horned sashes with margin side panes. A late 19th or 20th century rendered porch with a round-arched doorway sits at the front, concealing the original doorway with overlight and a four-panel door. The interior has not been inspected, but likely retains original features. The building is listed due to its importance and limited alterations within the historic group that comprises this former fishing and china clay port.
