Description

The chimney at Lovering's China Clay Dry in Charlestown was built by Lovering & Company between 1906 and 1907 and opened in 1908. It features a cylindrical design and is located at the north-west corner of the former china clay dry, known as Lovering’s dry. The chimney stands approximately 120 feet high and is primarily constructed of granite, although it was noted in 1909 that it was built from concrete blocks sourced from Pentewan, with a brick top. The chimney has moulded sections at two-thirds of its height and a collared top, and it is banded with iron straps.
