Description
Criggan Mill is a water mill, likely built in the mid-19th century. It features whitewashed rubble with brick dressings, a slate roof, and a brick chimney that has been significantly reduced in height. The mill is three stories tall with a gable front. There is a stable door on the left and a central loading door on the first floor, with an opening above it. At the rear, there is a thirty-foot over-shot hybrid wheel made of metal and timber, produced by Williams and Son of Lady Street, Helston. Inside, the mill retains complete machinery, including sack hoist gearing, two pairs of millstones, and a stone crane for lifting the runnerstone off its pivot. It is one of the few remaining complete Cornish flour dressing machines, known as a 'Jigger.' Additional machinery includes an Improved Corn Crushing Mill by R Hunt and Co Ltd and a grinding mill. The mill is located near the site of a manorial mill and is typical of many grist mills in the area, forming part of a farmyard group.
