Description
Polwheverall Bridge is a road bridge over the Polwheverell stream, built in 1572 and likely widened in the 19th century. Constructed from granite, it features a small single span. The vault consists of a series of granite arched beams placed side by side, with each beam forming a dressed granite unchamfered four-centred arch, supported by corbelled springing over straight ashlar abutments. The bridge was widened on the downstream south side using massive roughly-hewn granite blocks. Both sides of the bridge have parapets made of similar rough granite blocks. The bridge spans the Polwheverell stream, which flows into Polwheverall Creek, a tributary of the Helford River. There is a contract from 1572 between the parish and Roger Hallard, a mason from Tregoney, regarding its construction.
