Description

This barn, located approximately 50 meters southeast of Kestle Barton Farmhouse and Kestle Cottage, dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is primarily constructed of stone rubble, featuring dressed granite jambs and lintels, with some sections made of cob and wooden lintels. The barn has a half-hipped scantle slate roof that is arranged over three levels. Its overall shape is L-shaped, with the short arm of the L adjoining an earlier barn to the north. The long arm of the L was built in front of the left side at three different times, each at a lower level, with the final phase on the east side being single-storied.

The barn has two storeys and features both east and north fronts. The east front, which includes some cob, has a central doorway with a window above it. The north front includes a single-storey building on the left with a wide, partly blocked doorway, a central doorway, and a window to the right. There is also a low two-storey section with a doorway on both the far left and right, a central window with a brick relieving arch above, and two square first-floor pitching eyes. The right-hand barn section has doorways on both the left and right, along with ground and first-floor windows in the middle. The barn features old ledged doors, some of which have ventilation slits. The interiors have not been inspected. This barn is part of a nearly complete group of 18th and 19th-century farm buildings associated with a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th or 17th century.
