Description
West Lodge is a lodge that has been converted into a house, dating from the early 19th century with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from painted slatestone rubble with granite dressings and has an asbestos slate roof featuring ridge tiles and rendered gable end stacks. The building has a two-room plan with a central porch entrance and an integral rear outshut that has a catslide roof over shallow service rooms at the back.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical front with three bays. The central gabled porch is two storeys tall and is supported by square granite monolith piers with square capitals. It has a four-centred arched wooden doorway with an overlight, and the door is fitted with fleur de lys strap hinges. Above the door, there is a two-light, six-pane 19th-century casement window with L hinges and a timber lintel. The ground and first floors on either side of the porch have 20th-century two-light casement windows, while the walls to the right and left are blind. The rear and interior of the building were not accessible during the survey conducted in August 1986.
