Description
Jopes Mill is a water mill and store, likely dating to the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof with gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan and incorporates remnants of a water wheel on the right-hand gable. A two-storey store is attached to the left-hand gable end.
The asymmetrical front of the building is divided into a store on the left and the mill itself on the right, with a straight join to the left of the centre. The store features a window to the left and a plank door with a timber lintel on the right. The mill has a plank door set within a dressed stone arch, a two-light window, and a blocked window near the right-hand gable end. A further two-light window opening is present on the first floor.
The right-hand gable end retains the remains of a hybrid undershot mill wheel, bearing inscriptions that read 'W Brenton St Germans Cornwall' and 'W Brenton Polbathic'.
The mill interior retains much of its original machinery, including two pairs of millstones and timber gearing. The roof is supported by oak pegged collar rafters.
