Row Of 3 Cottages About 25 Metres South East Of The Morwenstow Methodist Chapel And Outbuilding Adjoining At East

This row of three cottages, located about 25 metres southeast of the Morwenstow Methodist Chapel, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The cottages are constructed from plastered whitewashed stone and feature thatched roofs, with brick chimneys. The outbuilding to the east has a slate roof. The cottages have a single depth plan, with a rear addition to the cottage next to the outbuilding.

Each cottage is two storeys tall and there are four windows along the first floor. The cottage next to the outbuilding has one window and an off-centre storm porch with stone rubble side walls and a sloping slate roof, along with pitched stone in front. The ground floor window to the right is a two-light 19th-century casement with six panes per light, while the first-floor window is a two-light 20th-century casement with two panes per light, both featuring slate sills.

The middle cottage has a symmetrical two-window front with a large 18th or 19th-century hornless sash window on the first floor, which has six panes per sash and is positioned high under the raised eaves. Its porch has a hipped roof supported by timber posts, a six-panel front door, and top panels with 16-pane early 19th-century sash windows.

The cottage at the eastern end has a one-window front and a gabled brick porch with bargeboarding, along with a two-plank front door. The ground floor window on the left is a four-pane 20th-century sash, and the right window is a two-light 19th-century casement with six panes per light. The first-floor window features a 12-pane hornless timber sash.

The adjoining outbuilding has a hipped projection to the front right and a 20th-century lean-to. It includes four openings in the loft and a cart entrance in front of the hipped projection. The outbuilding is included for its group value with the cottages. The interiors of the cottages have not been inspected.
